From February 2025, a significant change will be implemented regarding CSCS Labourer and Trainee cards. The initial Labourer card will now have its validity reduced from five years to two. Workers who continue in labouring roles can renew their card for five years by providing evidence of their ongoing employment in a labouring position. This change aims to ensure that cardholders remain active in their roles and possess the necessary skills required for their work.
Furthermore, the Trainee card will become available to individuals holding specific occupation-related non-competence qualifications. This initiative is designed to help new entrants begin their careers on a structured training pathway that leads to a recognised qualification and, ultimately, a skilled CSCS card. This change is expected to contribute to a more skilled workforce within the construction industry.
As part of the outreach to the industry ahead of February, CSCS conducted a briefing for the Association of Colleges. During this webinar, several questions were answered, and those that couldn’t be addressed due to time constraints will be available below. Everyone in the industry needs to stay informed about these changes and take advantage of the opportunities they present.
