A new Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy has recently been launched by the Construction Leadership Council. It was announced during a sector summit attended by the minister and senior construction leaders.

The new Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy was developed in partnership with key industry bodies, including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC), Mates in Mind, and businesses across the construction supply chain — the strategy sets out a coordinated approach to improving workforce wellbeing.

“As leaders in construction, we have a responsibility to our people,” said Mark Reynolds, Co-Chair of the CLC.

“We must raise our game to ensure everyone goes home safe, healthy, and supported every day.”

The new strategy brings together Tier 1 contractors, SMEs, product manufacturers and merchants, with the goal of:

  • Creating a safer, healthier, and more resilient industry
  • Supporting worker retention and recruitment
  • Tracking progress using consistent health and safety performance data

An overview will be provided by the newly formed CLC Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Group, which will report back to the CLC Board.

Sarah Jones, Industry Minister and CLC Co-Chair, commented:
“Getting Britain building is key to our plans for 1.5 million new homes and economic growth. This strategy will help attract talent and ensure workers are supported throughout their careers.”

The Health and Safety Executive also expressed support:

Sarah Newton, Chair of HSE, said:
“We welcome the strategy’s focus on preventing ill health as well as injury. The CLC remains a key partner in driving safer outcomes across the sector.”

The CLC encourages all industry participants to engage with the strategy and contribute to its implementation.
